Sample Letters and Petitions for Councilman Jones regarding the plan to re-zone the Saint Mary's properties to multi-family

I am a Manayunk resident. I have recently learned that you instructed The Philadelphia City Planning Commission to develop a zoning overlay for the Saint Mary of the Assumption church properties. I understand the intent of the overlay is to change the zoning of the properties from single family to multi-family.

Re-zoning the properties to multi-family will lead to greater density and more cars than this area of Manayunk can accommodate. It will lead to the further deterioration in the quality of life for the surrounding residents, already impacted by infill developments and loss of parking.

I join with other members of the community in urging you withdraw the request for a zoning overlay. Instead, help the community promote single family development within the current zoning classification. We ask that you turn your focus to assisting the community and North Light Community Center in addressing the pressing problem of parking, worsened by the potential loss of the over 100 parking spaces in the Saint Mary's parking lot and the inevitable disruption of construction.
